Connecting a universal reverse camera can be done in two ways. Read the instructions carefully to choose the best option.
Method 1 (with Canbus)
Do you have a car radio with a Canbus module? Then it is likely that the car radio will automatically switch to the camera image when you put the gear in reverse. The Canbus module sends 12V via the pink reverse/back wire to the car radio. As soon as 12V is present on this pink wire, the car radio will switch to the camera image. Is this the case? Then continue with this method.
Connect wire (B) to the pink reverse/back wire (A) of the Canbus. What you are doing is tapping 12V from the pink wire to power the camera, so that the camera only receives power when the gear is in reverse. The camera should not receive power when the gear is not in reverse, so the camera lights do not stay on constantly.
Connect the red power wire (C) of the camera to the red wire coming from the RCA connector. This way, 12V is sent through the Canbus to the camera. It should work this way. You can secure the black ground wire (D) to metal for extra security, but it should work without connecting this wire.
Method 2 (without Canbus)
- Connect wire (B) to the pink reverse/back wire (A) of the car radio.
- Connect wire (C) along with the red power wire of the camera to the +12V of your reverse lights. Note that the reverse lights are the white lights that only come on when the gear is in reverse. Do not connect it to any other light, as this would cause the camera to be constantly powered, which is not intended.
- Connect wire (D) to the ground.
When you put the gear in reverse, the reverse lights will turn on and receive power. This power is sent to the camera and the car radio, so the car radio recognizes that the car is reversing.
